Two killed in Kramat Djati bus accident in West Java

Kramat Djati bus overturned in West Java, early Wednesday.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GARUT -- A bus overturned on the Cicalengka bypass road in Bandung District, West Java, early Wednesday, killing two people. The bus "Kramat Djati," bearing police number D 7591 AF, overturned and stopped under the Cicalengka flyover, Chief of traffic unit of the Bandung District Police Adjunct Commissioner Hasby Ristama stated.

Based on the preliminary result of the investigation, the driver lost control of the Bandung-bound bus before it overturned under the flyover, he noted.

"The bus skid to the left side of the road," he remarked.

The police believed the driver fell asleep or tried to avoid something, but in the process, the bus skid to the left side of the road. A total of 14 people survived the accident.

Spokesman for the Bandung chapter of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Joshua Banjarnahor remarked that a SAR team had been sent to the scene to evacuate passengers trapped in the bus. All passengers had been rescued from the ill-fated bus and taken to the Cikupo regional general hospital in Cicalengka.

As a result of the accident, the road leading to Bandung was congested, leaving the police with no choice but to reroute traffic to the old road via Cicalengka Square.
