Pilgrims should do physical exercise before performing hajj

Exercising is important because hajj is physical worship.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Health urged hajj pilgrims to do regular exercise at least three times a week before they perform the worship to Holy Land in Saudi Arabia. The pilgrims should practice physical activities to prepare for their departure and perform hajj smoothly.

According to the Head of Hajj Health Centre of Ministry of Health, Eka Jusuf Singka, the pilgrims are expected to get used to exercise or practice physical activities two months before departure to Holy Land. He also said the pilgrims are also suggested to check their health properly.

“Hajj pilgrims should check their health properly, follow coaching, exercise training, and walking frequently,” said Eka when giving lecture for Integrated Debriefing of Saudi Arabian Hajj Officers 1440 H / 2019 at Asrama Haji Pondok Gede on Thursday.

Eka said exercising is important because hajj is physical worship. Moreover, in 2019 hajj season, the weather is expected to be hotter than last year.

Eka urged hajj pilgrims to use umbrella. He also suggest pilgrims to use water spray whenever needed in Holy Land.

Not only exercise, hajj pilgrims should consume healthy food in line with their bodies condition. Hajj pilgrims are advised to consume balance nutrition.

“Hajj pilgrims must drink often, two liters a day is minimal,” Eka added.

Eka said hajj pilgrims did not need to worry about outbreaks of disease in Holy land. However, the most important thing to do is keep complying with the requirements of the vaccine, such as meningitis and the other additional vaccines if necessary, such as influenza.

Pilgrims also have to wash their hands before eating. Eka believed if all parties give good counselling to hajj pilgrims this year, everything will run smoothly.

Eka said Ministry of Health has made preparations ahead of hajj implementation this year. There are three things, started from hajj pilgrims examination,  preparation of officers, and infrastructure.

"Insya Allah (God will) we will also open Indonesian Hajj Health Clinic (KKHI) with bigger capacity in Medina," Eka said.
