REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The country's exports of animal husbandry products rose 52.99 percent to 183,414 tons valued at US$474.19 million in the first nine months of this year from the same period last year, the government said. The export volume rose from 119,885 tons and the export value rose even higher by 194 percent, from US$161.17 million, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.
"We hope the exports would continue to rise in the last quarter of this year," Director General of Animal Husbandry and Health I Ketut Diarmita said in a statement here on Thursday.
Based on data at the directorate, exports of products of animal husbandry in the past 3.5 years reached Rp32.13 trillion dominated by animal health medicines, the exports of which were valued at Rp21.58 trillion with 87 export destination countries.
The second largest export commodities in value were pigs mainly to Singapore valued at Rp3.05 trillion, followed by milk contributing Rp2.99 trillion with 31 export destination countries, and animal feed contributing Rp3.34 trillion with 14 destination countries.
Other export commodities including eggs, meat, manufactured animal feed, goats/sheep, Day Old Chicken (DOC), and frozen semen were also major contributors to the export value of animal husbandry products Ketut said animal health has become an important issue in international trade at present. The issue has often become a problem in entering international market.
